60 Years of Leadership and Innovation

Background

Permacon can help bring your most inspired dreams to life and transform the world outside your door.

Permacon: 60 years of innovation.
Innovation with a promise.

It's the promise of perfect harmony you can choose among the colours, formats, shapes and textures. Harmony between every element of your project and its surroundings. Of course, when you think of Permacon, you think of pavers, walls, edgers and slabs, but Permacon also means bricks and stones.

For over sixty years, Permacon, pioneer, innovator and champion of growth, has been Canada’s largest producer of concrete products.

Since 2001, Permacon belongs to Oldcastle Architectural, a North-American leader in the manufacturing of concrete masonry and landscaping products, as well as products specifically designed for the do-it-yourself (DIY) construction and landscaping retail distribution segment. Oldcastle Architectural is part of the Oldcastle family of companies, a giant with sales of over $8 billion (US) in 2005. Oldcastle itself is owned by CRH, a construction product multinational – headquartered in Dublin, Ireland – with revenues of $15 billion (US) in 2004.

Offering an evolving line of over 1000 masonry and landscaping products, Permacon helps diversify and adorn the outdoors for residential, institutional, commercial and industrial environments.

With its 13 plants and over 800 employees working in its Quebec and Ontario facilities, Permacon caters to customers representing five market segments:

  • Residential masonry products
  • ICI masonry products – Institutional, Commercial, Industrial
  • Residential landscaping products
  • ICI landscaping products – Institutional, Commercial, Industrial
  • Retail distribution – Home Centers

Over the past decades, Permacon’s reputation as an international leader was acquired based on the firms two main sectors of excellence:

  1. Innovation and R&D
  2. Marketing, sales and customer service

Founded in Québec in 1952 as Bloc Vibré inc., the company merged with Les Industries Fortier Ltée in 1986 to create Permacon Group. Permacon then grew quickly due in part to a series of mergers and acquisitions.

In 2001, Oldcastle, the construction materials multinational company based in Atlanta, Georgia, acquired all of Permacon`s shares. In merging this powerful group, which has over 170 plants across North America and annual sales of CAN$8.4 billion for 2004, Permacon is in a strong position to flourish in Canada and abroad while accelerating R&D activities.
